Mrs. Velleca also announced that the process of finding a new headmaster has already begun, chaired by Governing Board Vice Chair Robert Musslewhite, former Governing Board Chair and Cathedral Foundation Board member Julie Miller, Governing Board member and Finance Committee Chair Chris Gladstone ‘75, and herself. The remaining members of the committee will be disclosed later this week.
In addition to the search committee, the St. Albans Governing Board will also be turning to a third party: Spencer Stuart. Founded in 1956, Spencer Stuart is one of the leading executive search and recruitment firms in the world. Notable clients of the firm include Yahoo, Twitter, General Motors, and Fannie Mae.
Since Mr. Wilson’s announcement, rumors have spread throughout the student body that the new headmaster could come from within the community. “My understanding is that the committee members are not excluding people from inside the community,” said Form IV dean and Upper School Governing Board representative Colleen Campbell. “They are certainly looking broadly, opening the search up nationally, or even internationally perhaps, but they are also looking within our own community for someone who might want to step into that role.
As for Mr. Wilson himself? Though he will not be on the search committee or involved in the decision-making process, he will aid the committee in attracting candidates to the school and ensuring a smooth transition. “God willing,” Mr. Wilson wrote in a letter to the community about his retirement, “I will find lots of time to stare up at the night sky over Tuscany.”
