#ForTheShip. The baseball dogs are about to play their final game of the IAC championship in a winner take all game at Georgetown Prep on Wednesday at 4:30. This week, we went out to Landon on Tuesday for some quality bear hunting in the semifinals of the playoffs. Behind a strong pitching performance from Clark Klitenic ‘19 and an early 3-0 lead, we beat the Bears 8-1. The next day, we went out again, this time to Georgetown Prep, for the first game of the championship. As James Howe ‘18 will tell you, we left them “stunned,” riding a great start from Ethan Roth ‘17 and some early offense, and we beat them 4-2. On Friday we came back to the Mount, trying to win the title at home, but Prep came with other plans. The Little Hoyas came out strong, scoring in all of the first 6 innings in the rainy game, and we ended up losing 6-1. But, the series continues on Wednesday as we look to win our 31st baseball IAC championship since 1970, so get out to that.

On Saturday, the St. Albans Varsity boats headed out to the Occoquan for the Virginia Rowing Association Championships. The 1v, 2v, and 4 all started out by rowing in heats to determine if they would advance to the final. In all three categories, the three STA boats not only won their heat comfortably but put down the fastest time of any boat in their category. In the finals, the 4 put down an awesome race to get third and pick up a bronze medal. In the 2v, St. Albans jumped out to an extremely quick start and never looked back, winning the event for the 8th year in a row. The 1v won the finals by a huge 8 second margin, winning for about the 6th year in a row. Overall, it was a great race for the Dogs, and we will head out to Stotesbury in Philly for our last race of the season (barring the 1v, who will race at Nationals in Ohio and Henley in England).

What a great conclusion to the Track and Field Team’s season. The boys that competed in the IAC B meet on May 9th blew the competition out of the water, absolutely dominating the meet; additionally, many of the competitors achieved PR numbers, marking a huge win for the runners’ personal goals. The IAC A meet boys got a second place finish, with Bullis coming in first. Many of the racers in that meet also obtained PRs, successfully concluding an awesome Track and Field Season. It’s been an honor running with the guys, and all the times that we all shared, that I shared, during the season are moments I will never forget. Thanks for the memories boys, and see you next year!

Varsity tennis had a good week. The team was seeded third heading into our first round match against Episcopal in the IAC tournament. Everyone played great and the Bulldogs won 7-0 to advance to the semifinals of the tournament against Bullis. This matchup was scheduled for Thursday but inclement weather forced that match to be rescheduled. Although the official IAC rain date was Saturday, May 13th, the Bullis coaches did not feel that they were ready to play us so now the match is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16th, at Bullis. A Bulldog victory at Bullis will then set up an IAC final matchup on Wednesday, May 17th, which will either be at Landon or at home vs St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School. The team will be playing for more than just a 7th straight IAC championship this week as the results from both baseball and tennis will likely determine if STA can win the Founders Cup for the first time since 1998. Stay tuned for announcements about those matchups and get out to that!
