Story by Max Niles '18 School is back in session, and that means it’s time for Fridays and Saturdays spent cheering our hearts out with some good ole fashion jingoism. For those who don’t know already, BEEF stands for Big Eaters Enjoy Festivities, and it is the STA’s student sports fan club. As always, attendance is mandatory for any Cathedral Close Student. Here's a look at the Beefiest games this coming September and October: BEEF kicks off this year on Friday, September 16th, when the varsity soccer team plays their home opener against Washington International School (what’s a WIS?). This game is a rematch of the biggest BEEF event of last year, which crowned STA the kings of DC soccer, and also nearly caused a parent brawl in the Washington Post and DCUrbanMom comment sections. However, last season is over, so all BEEF club members must show up at Steuart field on the 16th to rattle WIS into some red cards and cheer on Schultz’s army in a rematch that promises to be scrappier than “a pro-America rally” in the middle of Tehran.
The following Saturday, September 24th, we are treated to the first juicy, beefy, and tasty McDouble of the year. This double header day is lead off by a soccer game vs Bullis at 11:15 am, and followed by football vs Severn at 1:30; allotting enough time to get a spicy chicken sandwich from Chick-Fil-A between games. October gets started with a bang as the football team plays in a Friday Night game, but not under the lights, thanks to our wonderful neighbors. I know, the game will not East Dillon vs West Dillon, but it still is a Friday night football game which we are also predicted to win. The double whammy of Friday night ball and a winnable game is the perfect way to end your school week, so I fully expect the entire school to be hyped and chirping in the stands or on the field on October 7th. The following week we have the most festive BEEFkend of the year, Homecoming. The BEEF kicks off with a Friday night soccer game vs Landon. If the pure mention of Landon does not make you seethe with hatred and disgust, you need help, and the only place you can receive such medical attention is at this soccer game. There is even an ex-STA student, who cannot be named (thanks, IAC rules), who plays for them, so prepare your best chirps. This game, like anything vs Landon (including chess matches), will be a scrappy bloodbath. The next day, after ample recovery time, make your way into the stands for the homecoming football game vs Georgetown Prep. Braveheart is mandatory viewing before this game, and if you come to this game dressed in anything other than 13th-century Scottish garb, lord have mercy on your soul. Get your prep football roster right here, and prepare your best chirps. EVERYONE must come beefy, hyped and ready to conduct psychological warfare with Prep. Stay BEEFY my friends, and let's have a great year in the athletics! |
