I started playing Fortnite Battle Royale in early October, a couple of weeks before it became a worldwide phenomenon. At the time, update 2.4 (the update with Tilted Towers, Haunted Hills, Junk Junction, Snobby Shores, Shifty Shafts, and many unnamed locations) had not yet been implemented. Before the update, my go-to spot was always the factories west of Loot Lake, but that all changed on January 17th when the update dropped. As a frequent visitor of r/FortniteBR, a subreddit devoted to the Battle Royale gamemode of Fortnite, I was immediately drawn to Haunted Hills because of this post. Haunted Hills was actually a suggestion proposed by a Redditor two months before it was added to the game. Three months later, Haunted Hills is still my favorite place to drop. With eleven chest spawns and few visitors, it’s very easy to get a strong loadout in little time. Because of its small size, Haunted can be entirely looted by a squad in less than a minute. In addition, the path from Haunted to Pleasant or Snobby has many houses with strong loot, and the occasional loot llama. Many people find Haunted Hills to be too isolated from the rest of the map, and often out of the first circle, but I find that to be a good thing. With very little traffic, it’s easy to drop at Haunted and make it to the top 25 without seeing anyone, and the density of chest spawns makes up for the lack of loot from enemies. Because of its isolation, you don’t have to worry about people flanking you from behind when moving to Pleasant Park, and it’s easy to get to high ground as the circle gets smaller. Haunted is the perfect place to drop for people looking to get a victory royale.
